From the Editor: SIOP and APA

Debra A. Major
Old Dominion University

By the time you read this, you will have submitted all your terrific presentations for the 2004 conference in Chicago, right? Wait a minute. What do you mean you couldnt quite pull together that symposium in time? Oh, you only just finished the data collection for that poster you wanted to submit? Well, Ive got good news for you! You have another chance to submit your work to a major, national conference, and no offense to the Windy City, but the location is a special bonus. Yes, Im talking about the 2004 APA conference in Hawaii. Take a look at the article by Division 14 Program chair, Scott Highhouse, for lots of good news. The conference is being held in Honolulu, Hawaii, July 28 through August 1, 2004. The conference theme, workfamily balance, is an added attraction for all my fellow workfamily researchers. Those sensitive folks at APA are even making sure the programming ends each day by 2:00 p.m. so you can enjoy the island. Best of all, you have until November 14 to submit your work.

Yep, I can hear the grumblings already, Go to APA? What could APA possibly have to offer me (other than a stay in beautiful Hawaii)? Well, this issue of TIP contains the answer to that question, too. Past SIOP presidents, Ann Marie Ryan and Nancy Tippins, have written a compelling piece on the benefits of SIOPs relationship with APA. Be sure to take a look. Whether or not you agree that SIOP needs an association with APA, you are sure to learn something.

One way for SIOP members to strengthen their connection with APA is to be active in the APA presidential election. In this issue of TIP you get to hear from all the APA presidential hopefuls. Take a look at what they have to say and help identify the candidate who will best serve SIOPs interests at APA.
