APA 2004: Would You Like an Excuse to Visit Hawaii?
Scott Highhouse
Division 14 APA Program Chair
Bowling Green State University
Well, I have one for you.The 2004 convention of the American Psychological Association will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, from Wednesday, July 28 through Monday, August 1. The program day will be shortened, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m., in recognition of the fact that many will want to take advantage of the conventions proximity to the beach.
Now is the time to start developing proposals for what is sure to be a convention that is highly relevant to I-O psychologists. APA President-Elect Diane Halpern has chosen
workfamily balance as the theme for the Hawaii convention. She has asked Divisions to participate in developing this theme in their programs, something that should pose no problem for Division 14. In addition to the workfamily theme, especially welcome are proposals emphasizing the history of I-O psychology, the interface of I-O psychology and other areas of psychology, and the image of I-O psychology among stakeholders.
APA has moved to an online submission process. Specific details about the submission process will appear in the October issue of the APA
Monitor, and on the convention Web site: www.apa.org/convention. All submissions must arrive by
November 14, 2003 to be considered for acceptance. The SIOP program at APA will be created from your submissions of posters, symposia, tutorials, conversation hours, panel discussions, and other formats you wish to propose. However, stand-alone papers for oral presentation will not be accepted. Submissions will be considered from APA and/or SIOP members or from persons sponsored by an APA or SIOP member. Questions may be directed to the Division 14 Program Chair, Scott Highhouse, at shighho@bgnet.bgsu.edu.
