Applied Psychological Techniques, Inc. received two Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partnership, Inc. silver Innovation Prizes for the creation and results of JobMetricsSM, a Web-based job analysis tool, and SelectionMetricsSM, a Web-based selection system. The awards were presented to APT principals and cofounders, Kathleen K. Lundquist, president, and John C. Scott, vice-president, at the CQIA Partnerships 16th Annual Conference on Quality and Innovation.

Karla Stuebing of FSD Data Services won a 2003 Leadership in Technology Award. The award, sponsored by the Association for Women in ComputingHouston, honors leaders in the technology industry. 

Transitions, Appointments, and New Affiliations

John P. Campbell was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Society. Campbell is one of the nations foremost researchers in the field of I-O psychology. Currently, he is the principal scientist for Project A, a multimillion-dollar research project sponsored by the Army Research Institute, as well as the psychology department chair at the University of Minnesota. 

SIOP members Sue Coverdale and Mary Kelly joined the Selection Practice Group of Personnel Research Associates, Inc. as directors. Previously, Coverdale was an independent consultant and Kelly was manager of Research and Development at IPAT.

SIOP Fellow and Past President Irv Goldstein was named University System of Maryland (USM) vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. As vice chancellor, Goldstein provides leadership to USM in academic planning and accountability, including initiatives such as program review, research policy, student affairs, and academic support services. Previously, Goldstein served as professor and dean of the school of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland.

Terry Halfhill, assistant professor of I-O psychology at the University of North Texas and Center for the Study of Work Teams, has accepted a position at the Pennsylvania State UniversityNew Kensington Campus with the Business and Economics Division.

Dimitri Liakhovitski and Stephanie Eller joined the Global Organizational Effectiveness Group at Pfizer (Consumer Healthcare Division) in Morris Plains, NJ as managers. As members of the OE group, they will be working with fellow SIOP member Peter D. Wentworth, VP of HR for Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. Previously, Liakhovitski worked for Mercer Delta Consulting and Eller was a consultant for AstraZeneca.

Robert Pritchard and Robert Folger have both accepted positions at the University of Central Florida. Pritchard joined the faculty in the Department of Psychology and Folger joined the faculty in the Department of Management.

Ted Rosen was appointed director of the Organizational Behavior and Development Program at the George Washington University School of Business and Public Management.

After 13 years at SHL, Gary Schmidt joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation as director of Global Talent Management. Schmidt recently received his MBA from the Stern Business School executive program at NYU. He can be reached at gary.schmidt@pharm.novartis.com.

SIOP Fellow and Past President Benjamin Schneider has joined Personnel Research Associates, Inc. in the role of senior research fellow. Schneider is joining PRA following a distinguished academic career, most recently at the University of Maryland.

Helena Cooper Thomas has moved to New Zealand to take a position as lecturer at the University of Auckland. She can be reached at H.cooper-thomas@auckland.ac.nz.

Mike Burke has been promoted to Freeman Chair of Doctoral Studies in Research at Tulane University.

Paul Thayer is the new president of the SIOP Foundation, replacing Irv Goldstein, who resigned because of the pressures of his new appointment in the University of Maryland system. Ann Howard replaces Paul as vice-president, and Rich Klimoski has been elected to compete Irvs term. Other Board members include Nancy Tippins, secretary, Jeff McHenry, treasurer, and Lyman Porter, trustee. Dianna Stone, SIOP financial officer, attends Foundation Meetings ex officio. Lee Hakel and Linda Lentz provide staff support.

The board wishes to thank Irv for his outstanding leadership during the Foundations first 5 years and to thank Cathy Higgs for her excellent service as secretary for that same period. The board also hopes that members will continue to support its goals through generous contributions.
