Proposed Changes in Article II of the SIOP Bylaws (Membership Process)

Change Article II (6), (6a), and (6b) to reflect current Membership Committee practice. 

The proposed changes are detailed below. For convenience, both old and new language is indicated. Language to be deleted is indicated by strikethrough characters and new language is underlined.


Article II: Membership

6. The Membership Committee of the Society will receive review applications and make recommendations for Society Member, Society Associate, and Society Foreign International Affiliate and Student Affiliate status in the Society. Applicants will be notified of the decision in a timely manner.

6a. The Membership Committee will submit its recommendations to the Executive Committee periodically; the Executive Committee will act upon the recommendations of the Membership Committee and will by a majority vote elect candidates. If an applicant is rejected by the Membership Committee or the Executive Committee, the applicant may submit his or her application directly to the Society Members at a scheduled business meeting of the Society, provided such special action is requested in writing by five members of the Society. A majority of Society Members present and voting at the meeting is necessary to overturn the rejection by the Membership Committee or the Executive Committee. Rejected applicants may resubmit their application with additional supporting information.

6b. Society Associates who meet the standards for Society Member status will be so advanced upon application to and recommendation by the Membership Committee. and approval of the Executive Committee.
