September is Smarter Workplace Awareness Month! We've dedicated the month to sharing information about how the science and practice of I-O psychology can improve worker well-being while creating more effective organizations.

We are again focusing on the annual Top 10 Trends. For an overview, watch this brief video or read the article announcing the Top Ten Workplace Trends for 2019.

The Smarter Workplace committee has been working with member experts to create special content on the Top 10 topics each week of September. The new publications will be featured in your weekly Newsbriefs email and posted here.

In addition, the SIOP Visibility Committee hosted an IGNITE session on the Top 10 Trends at the 2019 Annual Conference. Links to short videos covering the trends are also included here.

 

Week 1:

Denise Rousseau will discuss the Changing Nature of Work (Trend #7) in a posting on September 4. Read the article and add your comments in the discussion thread at the end. Share on your favorite social media platform to help spread the word about Smarter Workplace Awareness Month. Tag your posts with #SmarterWorkplace to make them easier to search. Doug Reynolds also spoke on the Changing Nature of Work in his SIOP Conference IGNITE Presentation. The SIOP Visibility Committee has also just published Neil Morelli's Hot Topics White Paper on Artificial Intelligence in Talent Assessment and Selection. Week 2:

This week we're featuring videos from the Top 10 Trends IGNITE session at the 2019 Annual Conference. Spend 5 minutes with Tara Behrend as she debunks some misconceptions about the Automation of Jobs and Tasks, (Trend #6), or with Kizzy Dominguez, who talks about the #2 Trend, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, or with Tina Burke, who shares some great Data Visualization tips (Trend #8). Post about the videos on your favorite social media platform to help spread the word about Smarter Workplace Awareness Month, tagging your posts with #SmarterWorkplace to make them easier to search.

 

Week 3:

This week features a mix of new content and videos recorded at the Top 10 IGNITE session. Ben Baran shares information on Trend #9, Creating Agile Organizations, and Wayne Robinson draws inspiration from nature for his discussion of Agile Organizations in a Top 10 videoEmily Campion discusses the “Gig Economy” and contract work (Trend #4). Carra Sims discusses sexual harassment in the evolving workplace, and Jennifer Weiss adds to the #MeToo discussion (Trend #5) in her Top 10 video. Your comments are welcome in the discussion thread at the end of the article posts. Please share these items with the #SmarterWorkplace tag on your favorite social media platform to help spread the word about Smarter Workplace Awareness Month.

Week 4:

Smarter Workplace Awareness Month finishes strong with several items! Scott Tonidandel shares insights on Working With Big Data (Trend #3) and Julie Wayne covers Trend #10, Work-Life Balance Interventions. Richard Landers discusses the #1 Trend, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Add your voice in the discussion threads at the end of the articles. 5-minute videos recorded during the Top 10 Trends IGNITE session at the 2019 SIOP Annual Conference also provide insight and entertainment on the subjects. Fred Oswald presents on Big Data, Dan Putka gives his perspective on AI & ML, and Tammy Allen discusses Work-Life Balance InterventionsShare these items on your favorite social media platform to help spread the word about Smarter Workplace Awareness Month and tag your posts with #SmarterWorkplace to make them easier to search.
