7 Preconference Workshops Now Available

By Rob Michel, 2021 SIOP Annual Conference Workshops Chair

Be sure to consider adding a preconference workshop (or two, or more!) when you submit your registration for the 2021 SIOP Annual Conference. The workshops will be live virtual events during the week of March 29, 2 weeks before the actual conference. The workshops are a great opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field in an intimate, interactive setting on topics important to the ever-evolving world of work.

Technology’s impact on I-O psychology grows every year, so it is more important than ever to stay current on technological developments in the field. This year’s workshops include one that focuses on designing technology and data products, and the impact that artificial intelligence and data science are having in this area. Another concerns using data visualization tools to facilitate decision making and help convey the important messages from our data analyses to non-technical stakeholders.

The workshop slate also includes several that involve strategic and legal issues important to many I-O psychologists, including one on linking human capital initiatives to business results, one on the use of surveys to create a strategy-inspired continuous listening approach in your organization, and one on the latest legal developments that are impacting organizations and the work that I-O psychologists do. Finally, there are two workshops that will interest many involved in leadership development activities, including one on how to ensure the lessons from development programs are actually applied back on the job and another on using storytelling to create inspirational leaders.

Preconference workshops are $199 for SIOP members and $249 for non-members. Full workshop details can be found on the Preconference Workshop webpage.

As you can see, there is something for everyone on this year’s preconference workshop slate. On top of that, the workshops are a great opportunity to network with peers facing the same challenges you are and, for those who need them, earn continuing education (CE) credits. If you have already registered for the conference but were not aware of the workshops when you registered, it is very easy to go back and add them to your registration by logging into your account.
