Amber Stark / Tuesday, October 12, 2021 / Categories: Member News, Items of Interest, SIOP Source, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Registration Now Open for DIP Conference SIOP’s Diversifying I-O Psychology Program (“The DIP”) will kick off next month with a conference designed to help racial and ethnic individuals, particularly minority undergraduate students, learn more about I-O psychology. The vision for The DIP is to help build a significantly larger talent pipeline of Black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx, and Native Americans for I-O graduate education and ultimately SIOP. The conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET Nov. 8 and 9. Attendees can register for this virtual event here. Day 1 of the DIP Virtual Conference will focus on the I-O PhD experience. Attendees will hear from distinguished speakers about what a career in I-O psychology is like, how to pursue a career in I-O psychology, and what a PhD program involves. Day 2 of the DIP Virtual Conference will focus on the application process, including how to find programs that are a good fit, the application itself, interviewing, and preparing to start the program. Each of the sessions will include time for students to ask questions. If you know a racial or ethnic minority undergraduate student who could benefit from this free, virtual conference, encourage them to learn more and register by visiting the DIP website. The DIP was introduced earlier this year after being unanimously approved by the Executive Board at its April meeting. Designed to increase racial diversity within the field of I-O psychology, and ultimately SIOP, by increasing the diversity of students who are applying to and accepted into funded I-O doctoral programs, this initiative is strongly aligned with SIOP’s strategic goal to build a diverse, inclusive, and agile SIOP. You can learn more in SIOP President Steven Rogelberg’s June Better Together Tuesdays video, which featured SIOP Diversity and Inclusion Officer Derek Avery. A select group of conference participants will have the opportunity to continue onto Phases 2 and 3 of The DIP: a research experience to take place in early 2022 and a conference immersion opportunity to take place at the 2022 SIOP Annual Conference in April.
