Conference Advice (Mostly) for First-Time Attendees and Students

The 2022 SIOP Annual Conference Season will comprise several weeks of special sessions, add-on events, and networking, culminating in an exciting 3 days of seeing old friends, meeting new people, learning, talking, and digging into the newest I-O research.

Because large conferences can be overwhelming for first-time attendees and students, we’ve compiled the following resources. If you haven’t attended a conference in a while, or are a seasoned pro looking for a refresher, you may also find the following helpful.

This TIP article provides helpful information on how to make the most of the conference. We also offer a list of tips on our website that includes suggestions for before, during, and after the conference, such as downloading the Whova app. If you are participating in the Ambassador Program, watch for emails from the program organizers to attend their separately scheduled events. For those attending in-person in Seattle, please join us for this event just for you:

Newcomer Welcome Reception
5 p.m. PDT Thursday, April 28, Sheraton Metropolitan Ballroom B
This session will provide an outlet for new conference attendees and new SIOP members to debrief and decompress after their first full day! Join the Program Committee Chair and Membership Committee Chair to talk about your favorite parts of the first conference day while also learning about ways to overcome any struggles going into the remaining event days. Stick around to enjoy appetizers and drinks while getting to know your fellow new SIOP friends!

The SIOP Education and Training Committee has also created a session and event list available here to help you quickly find the events and sessions that you may find most interesting. Finally, you can review the Program Search and Conference website for important information.

We look forward to seeing you in person, or virtually, at the 2022 SIOP Annual Conference!
