SIOP Launches Updated Infographic on Member Demographics

SIOP has released version 3 of its infographic on member demographics. The infographic was first launched in the summer of 2021 to provide important data on member demographics, such as work industry, education history, gender breakdown, and location.

The infographic is accessible to non-members and is designed to provide anyone who is interested in learning more about SIOP and the broader I-O field with an overview of the Society's membership. The data is based on the latest available information from the preceding membership year.

One of the key challenges faced by SIOP is the high proportion of missing data for certain fields. For example, almost half of the members do not provide their race/ethnicity. SIOP calls on all members to log in to their account and fill out the missing fields. The data will be used in aggregate to help SIOP make strategic decisions regarding membership and to produce reports like the infographic.

To update your demographic information, log in to your account and click on “Edit Demographic Information.”

"We want to encourage our members to get to know one another, find affinity groups with whom to partner and connect, and use the information to promote SIOP," said SIOP Member Analytics Subcommittee member Jaclyn Martin Kowal. "Just as we understand the importance and utility of data in I-O psychology contexts, collecting and interpreting data on our members is one way towards better understanding our membership body."

The infographic is also intended to help SIOP leadership develop strategic plans for recruiting new members, ensuring ample support for members from different backgrounds, and promoting diverse representation among the membership.

SIOP plans to update the infographic each year with the latest available data. Members are encouraged to share the infographic widely and use it to promote SIOP to others. To request additional analyses or reports, fill out the data request form.

SIOP continues to work toward providing a comprehensive picture of its membership, and members can play a key role in this effort by ensuring that their information is up to date.
