SIOP membership includes a variety of benefits, including resources and publications to keep you up to date on the I-O psychology field and educational offerings to further your career. But do you know about all of the networking and community-building opportunities SIOP offers to help expand your reach and contacts?
Members attending the 2026 SIOP Annual Conference will find numerous opportunities to network with mentors and colleagues, including receptions, coffee breaks, and social events. But even if you’re not attending the annual conference, now is a good time to connect, or reconnect, with colleagues on LinkedIn, where excitement about the conference is leading to engaging conversations about trends in the field.
Other SIOP events, including the SIOP Leading Edge Consortium and SIOP Work Smart Series, also offer opportunities to network and connect with colleagues interested in advancing their knowledge in the field. If meet-ups are more your thing, we encourage you to look into Local I-O Groups, which operate independently of SIOP but have both member and topic overlap.
If hands-on engagement is of interest to you, volunteering is another way to build both relationships and skills as a SIOP member.
If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to look at, or add yourself to, the I-O Family Tree! This is a unique way to track academic genealogy—and learn about the connections you might already have in the field.
Whether you’re a long-time SIOP member or newer to the field or Society, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation, in person or online, with another member. You already have I-O psychology in common, but other commonalities, including the university or college you attended or your professional areas of interest, are other great conversation starters. You might be surprised how quickly you can make a new friend, find a collaborator, or find a mentor.
