The latest SIOP book is the first to bridge both the SIOP Organizational Frontiers Book Series and the SIOP Professional Practice Book Series, providing practical applications of science.
Case Studies in I-O Psychology: Practical Applications of Science, which was edited by SIOP Retired Fellow Rick Jacobs and SIOP Fellow Doug Reynolds, documents how science informs real-world interventions and how these applications generate new research questions that advance scientific understanding and build theories.
As the editors note: “The dynamic field of industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology effectively integrates science with practice; practice is informed by scientific principles while scientific questions often emerge from practical applications. This science-practice-science virtuous circle advances both the discipline itself and broader movements such as evidence-based management.”
The volume profiles 20 diverse projects across several practice domains, including talent selection, leadership development, inclusion and belongingness, technology enablement, and promotion of workplace safety and health.
Each case summary describes the scientific foundation, methodological approach, implementation challenges, and evaluation metrics used in the work and shares the research questions that emerged. Distinguished scholars in the field, many of whom are SIOP members, provide commentary on each case, reflecting on the integration of science and practice. This volume is designed to illustrate practice methods in field settings, theory-to-practice translation, and the real-world challenges encountered when applying theoretical approaches. The concluding chapter synthesizes themes that emerged across these diverse cases.
Case Studies in I-O Psychology was published in July and is available for purchase in print and as an E-book.
