PepsiCo’s Global Leadership Assessment & Development (LeAD) Program 

PROJECT SUMMARY

Over the past 10 years, a number of global megatrends have impacted our business, which have led to us transforming the ways we execute and deliver against business goals and manage talent.

Not only must we identify leaders at senior levels who can continue to transform the way we operate and navigate change, but we need the ability to make decisions on how best to leverage their talents today. Additionally, we need to identify and develop leaders of the future, ensuring they have right experiences and skills to shape the future of PepsiCo and propel the company forward.

To that end, we have been assessing our key talent via our Leadership Assessment and Development (LeAD) program, a multi-trait, multi-method approach across multiple job level tiers. The LeAD framework is a comprehensive leadership development system that’s enabling PepsiCo to build a robust, future-focused talent pipeline at all levels. It also has been fully integrated with our talent management processes and internal HR systems.

The LeAD program is theoretically grounded in industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology models on leadership potential and has been empirically validated. What’s more, the program design has benefitted from the input of thought leaders, assessment partners, leading I-O psychologists, business school professors, and consulting practitioners.

Since 2013, the LeAD program has helped PepsiCo accurately and consistently identify and develop our internal talent, from early career to senior executives, to deliver against our business objectives and focus on the future capabilities needed for success.
