SIOP is launching a new pilot program to help members build community and stay connected throughout the year. Based on member feedback, SIOP is piloting three member-led Special Interest Groups (SIGs), designed to bring together individuals with shared professional interests, career experiences, and areas of expertise. The goal of this initiative is to make it easier to connect with others who care about the same topics, challenges, and opportunities.

Beginning in July, SIOP will launch a 6-month pilot program with three initial SIGs. Once launched, these SIGs will be available for any interested SIOP member to join. They are:

  • AI in I-O Psychology
  • Early Career Practitioners
  • People Analytics

These initial SIGs were selected based on active member interest and timely relevance to the future of I-O psychology.

Each SIG will be led by one to two champions, who will be tasked with recruiting initial members, facilitating the SIG community, and providing feedback about their experiences to the SIG taskforce. Champions will need to be central to their existing communities, excited about formalizing those communities within SIOP, and willing to commit the time to make their SIG successful.

During the pilot, SIGs may support member connection through discussions, virtual gatherings, resource sharing, and other activities shaped by member needs and champion availability. The 6-month pilot period will allow SIOP to learn what members need from SIGs, what support champions require, and what structure will be sustainable before expanding the model.

Post-pilot, champions will be appointed for a minimum 2-year term, which can be extended. Champions must be current members, full or associate, of SIOP.

Although final plans may change, the long-term intention is to allow all members to suggest new SIGs at any time. Suggested SIGs would receive an initial feasibility review and, if approved, be made visible for members to join throughout the year and during membership renewal. There will be no limit to the number of SIGs a member can join.

Interested in getting involved? Sign up to participate in or champion one or more of the pilot SIGs by completing this interest form. If you have any questions, please direct them to the task force co-chairs, Amy DuVernet and Roni Reiter-Palmon.
