Last Chance to Submit to the SIOP Machine Learning Competition Is March 14

Join the more than 200 cross-disciplinary teams from top companies and universities competing to determine who can build algorithms that balance fairness with validity. March 14 is the final day to submit solutions. Winners will be announced shortly after.

The aim of this year’s competition is to maximize business impact simultaneously with fairness. Using a large, real-world set of hiring data, teams create algorithms of who to hire based on a pre-employment assessment battery. The more the algorithms predict job performance while also remaining fair, the higher they rank in terms of utility, placing them on top of the leaderboard. Winning teams will get a chance to present at the 2021 SIOP Annual Conference. Detailed information and a public leaderboard can be found on the competition’s webpage.

All winning team’s code, along with competition data will be open sourced, free for everyone to use and improve upon. The open source code release lowers the bar to implementation of these methods in practice, improves upon the best method available, and ultimately should increase fairness across all pre-employment screening.

The competition is organized by SIOP Program Special Sessons committee members Nick Koenig, PhD, and Isaac Thompson, PhD, both principal data scientists at Modern Hire.
