SIOP Research Access: An Instrumental Service Worth Adding to Your Membership

Martin Royal and Tara Myers

The scientific foundation of I-O psychology is what sets us apart from other practitioners. For many I-O psychologists, access to an academic library is lost when we finish school. Still, we need to stay abreast of our field and keep our knowledge and skills sharp. We also need access to solid, useful resources. Practitioners may use literature sources when working on tasks such as:

  • Proposals
  • Technical reports
  • White papers
  • Journal/conference submissions
  • Technical approaches to the work

For example, as consultants, we continually strive to develop services that meet the changing needs of our customers. We do it in response to specific customer requests or to customize an existing offer, but we also seek ways to stay ahead of the competition with cutting-edge and evidence-based services. It means being able to research and review studies that are relevant to our business needs to build new conceptual models, support the impact of our engagements, and simply better advocate how our solutions can make a difference for our customer.

At SIOP, you can access evidence-based research and peer-reviewed journals and magazines through the SIOP Research Access (SRA) service. This service makes available three EBSCO Host research databases:

  • Business Source Corporate: this database includes sources from top business magazines, trade publications, country reports, company profiles, and more.
  • Psychology and Behavioral Science Collection: the database provides access to several full-text psychology journals, including many indexed in PsycINFO.
  • SocIndex: this database is focused on sociology research and contains millions of records from top sociology journals covering a wide range of sociological fields such as social psychology, racial studies, and gender studies.

In addition to these databases, SRA makes available publications by and for SIOP members on a variety of scientific and practice topics.

SRA is a benefit available only to paid SIOP members. The SRA fee is $50, and the service is activated immediately upon purchase.  You can add SRA when you are paying for your SIOP 2020-21 dues!
